Thomas Jefferson Memorial in Washington DC honors the 3rd President of the United States, the Second Vice President and the first US Secretary of State. Jefferson was also the main drafter of the Declaration of Independence. Construction of the building started in 1939 and the bronze statue of Jefferson was added in 1947. The building is in West Potomac Park on the shore of the Tidal Basin.
