Tuzigoot National Monument

Tuzigoot National Monument preserves a pueblo ruin on the summit of a ridge east of Clarksdale, Arizona. The park protecting the ancient dwelling of the Sinagua Indians from the 12th century was established in 1939.

Location: Tuzigoot National Monument is located in the Verde Valley, just east of Clarkdale, Arizona. The site sits atop a limestone and sandstone ridge, 120 feet above the Verde River floodplain.

Establishment: Tuzigoot was designated as a U.S. National Monument on July 25, 1939, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The site was excavated from 1933 to 1935 by archaeologists from the University of Arizona.

Protection: The monument is protected to preserve the historical and cultural significance of the Sinagua people who built and inhabited the pueblo between 1125 and 1400 CE.
