Bowman Lake is located in the North Fork area of Glacier National Park, around 30 or so miles north of the West Entrance. It is in the northwest section of the park and is one of the more remote areas accessible by road.
The lake is the third largest in the park at 1,706 acres. The elevation of the lake is 4,030 feet.
The Bowman Lake campground run by the park service has 46 campsites can be found near the shores of the lake. Tt is first-come first served. There are vault toilets and potable water available at spigots. Primitive camping is available in the fall depending on weather and road conditions.
There are limited amenities in the area, vehicles over 21′ and/or trailers are not permitted on the roads to it, and four-wheel drive vhicles are recommended (flat tires are a common problem).
It is not far from Polebridge, Montana a small community 22 miles from the Canadian border with a general store, saloon, hostel, ranch and the Polebridge Mercantile (bakery).
