Here are the popular attractions and hikes in Grand Teton National Park near Jenny Lake, including Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point:
Jenny Lake
Jenny Lake is the deepest lake in Grand Teton National Park at 423 feet and the second largest lake at nearly 1200 acres. It was formed thousands of years ago by glaciers. It is as pretty as any lake that you will ever see.
Jenny Lake Campground
A popular first-come, first-served campground within walking distance of Jenny Lake that has 49 tent campsites and 10 hike/bike campsites. From June through September, the campground typically fills by 9 AM. We stayed here in May 2016 and marveled at the unbelievable views of the mountains from some of the sites.
Jenny Lake Visitor Center and Store
The Visitor Center was staffed by helpful park rangers answering visitor questions. One of the most helpful features was the weather report which we found here daily. It was under a bit of construction as part of the Jenny Lake Renewal Project when we visited in 2016 but the construction is only scheduled to last until 2018.
The store has snacks and souvenirs. This was the beginning of my love affair with the output of an automated cappuccino machine. They were much sweeter than our campfire coffee and I think I had one every day that we were in the park (and two on at least one day).
Jenny Lake Boat Shuttle
The Shuttle Boat Service runs a 12 minute trip across Jenny Lake from the boat dock in the South Jenny Lake area across to a dock on the west side of the lake at the base of Mount Teewinot. Reservations are not required. Using the shuttle, Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point are 1 mile and 1.9 miles round trip respectively from the Cascade Canyon trailhead from the west boat dock. The shuttle boat eliminates a 2 mile hike each way from the Jenny Lake boat dock to the Cascade Canyon trailhead.
Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point
This is one of the most popular hikes in Grand Teton National Park. It starts at the Cascade Canyon Trailhead near the West Shore Boat Dock. A short side trail after a half mile takes guests to Hidden Falls, an approximately 200 foot waterfall. As you climb, there are great views of Teewinot Mountain, Grand Teton and Mt. Owen. At the 1.1 mile mark, you will find Inspiration Point, an overlook with tremendous views of Jenny Lake, Jackson Hole and the Gros Ventre Range in the distance.
Other Jenny Lake Hikes
The Jenny Lake Loop is a 7.5 mile trail that begins at the Jenny Lake Trailhead and travels all the way around the lake. We didn’t have time to complete this hike when we were here in May 2016 but it is a beautiful area that we will definitely do when we have more time on our next trip there.
