The Parker Group is a cluster of Giant Sequoias along Crescent Meadow Road in Sequoia National Park. It is named for the second acting superintendant of the park.
Sequoia National Park was established in 1890 and protected by the U.S. Cavalry until the National Park Service was created in 1916.
Captain James Parker served in Troop B of the U.S. Army’s 4th Cavalry. He was acting superintendant of Sequoia National Park in 1893 and 1894 – the second military superintendant of the park. The military stayed near the Parker Group at a site called Soldiers Camp. The trees were named for the members of the Parker family.
