Transept Trail is a three mile round trip hike that follows the canyon rim from Grand Canyon Lodge to the North Rim Campground. Transept is a popular family hike on the Grand Canyon North Rim.
Transept Trail intersects with the canyon at a few different places to provide scenic views. There are also a number of short spur trails to reach scenic overlooks. It is a relatively easy way to get away from the lodge and get a different view of the canyon.
Transept Trail intersects with the Bright Angel Point trail behind Grand Canyon Lodge.
There are a few different trails that are considered as having “better” views, but they require a long drive from the main part of the North Rim or If you don’t have the time or inclination for a hot hike, this is a solid hiking option for your family.
Transept Trail is also known for reported sightings of the Wailing Woman, who is said to haunt the North Rim. The legend says she committed suicide in the 1920s after her husband and son died in a hiking accident in the canyon. Transept Trail has been named one of the 8 creepiest places in the US National Parks as a result of this legend.
